The Whitford Group is a management consulting firm dedicated to
developing solid, differentiated businesses and brands and the marketing strategies and

areas: Brand and business strategy, branding and positioning, the strategic
planning process, and the development of targeted, tactical plans to

Brand and Business Strategy: A well-defined strategy and its
development is often one of the most misunderstood endeavors within
a brand or organization. The bridging function of brand and business
strategies must stand free from programmatic plans yet be connected
intimately. An enduring strategy, well-conceived, will accommodate
changes in the market and competition and the resulting development
of unique and evolving tactical plans. A clear understanding of how
this process will work is critical to success.
Branding and Positioning: This is how the consuming public views
your product, brand or company, the collective perception of how you
are represented to them through a combination of communication and
experience, both personal and related. A crystal clear understanding of
where a business or brand currently resides, compared to where it
needs to be for success, is of critical importance to the effectiveness
and efficiency of all strategic and tactical efforts engaged in.
The Strategic Planning Process: The Whitford Group has
developed a proprietary planning process called The Integration
Engine. This process fully and successfully engages all members of the
business, brand and agency partner teams, utilizing a unique approach
that will surface a surprising volume of insight, perspectives and
solutions, none of which are achievable with the more typical vertically
focused processes in place within most organizations today. This
process puts flesh on the strategic bones, ensuring a clearly
understood and enthusiastically implemented business plan.
Plan Development: The Whitford Group is also fully capable of
working hand in glove with a client to craft the marketing or business
plan to bring to life the strategic efforts engaged in thus far. Whether
it entails driving the Integration Engine process or simply focusing and
refining its output, we find nothing more gratifying than assisting wit
the oversight of a successfully implemented plan.
John is an accomplished senior executive with success as a general manager and operations and marketing leader providing strategic leadership and solutions to complement operational business needs.
He has held senior roles on both new and established businesses in CPG, hospitality and travel, residential real estate and technology. This experience includes Vice President Marketing with Marriott International, Senior Vice President at Starwood Worldwide, Senior Vice
President Marketing with Century 21 LLC, CMO at Financial Times Search, a startup within The Financial Times Group, and senior roles at Hilton Worldwide, including Vice President Marketing, DoubleTree Hotels, Vice President Operations, Hilton Hotels, and Senior Vice President and Global Head for both the DoubleTree and Hilton Garden Inn businesses.
He brings effective strategic planning, process management skills, a passion to create innovative integrated solutions and is a demonstrated consensus builder within complex matrix organizations. His experience across a number of industries and a multitude of product categories in both products and services brings a unique perspective to strategic, branding and positioning work.
John is a graduate of Dickinson College, studied for a year at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and received an MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
